Huangyaguan Great Wall
Huangyaguan Great Wall is situated within the mountainous area about 30 kilometers to the north of Ji County. According to the historical records, it used to be 18 defense piers at Ji County in which Huangyaguan is one of them. Moreover, due to the extreme location of Huangyaguan, it played an important role in military purpose throughout the history. Originally constructed in 556, Huangyaguan Great wall was reconstructed and renovated during Ming Dynasty when a famed general Qi Jiguang on board here. As Huangyaguan was constructed along the mountain in which majority of the rocks on the eastern part is in yellowish color, the evening sun rays would automatically turn the great wall into yellow color, perhaps this was how this section of Beijing Great Wall gained its name.
