Airport Taxi
Taxi can be considered as a very common and convenience method of transportation especially for tourists in Beijing. This is because the area of Beijing city is very large and it is obvious that you might need transportation to get you to your destinations. Therefore, Beijing taxi might be a great choice for you especially during your arrival at the airport with all your belongings with you.
There are taxi stops at all three terminals of Beijing Capital International Airport.
Taxi Stops:
Terminal 1: Between Gate 3 to Gate 5 on Arrival Hall
Terminal 2: Between Gate 3 to Gate 7 on Arrival Hall

There are about 67000 taxis throughout Beijing City with various models of cars including Volkswagen, Jetta, Sonota and Elantra as the most common types of vehicle. Basically, almost all the taxi that you find in Beijing are new cars as the old red colored taxi has been replaced before the opening of Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Anyway, the taxis under different companies might be painted with different colors such as cark blue, green, red white and black but all with yellow stripe across the middle.
It is easy for you to recognize a taxi on the road. All taxis are set with an indicator lamp stating “Taxi†on the top and with a license plate starting with “京B†on the front and back of the vehicle. For taxi that available for hire, a red light stated “For Hire†can be found at the middle of the front window. The light will turn off once you get into the taxi to indicate that the taxi is occupied. The starting rate of Beijing taxi is 10 RMB per trip for an initial distance of 3 kilometers (1.86 miles). An additional 2 RMB is charged for each additional kilometer traveled after the initial distance. Besides that, a waiting fee will be applied if the taxi stops or waits for more than 5 minutes. In this case, an extra charge will be added every five minutes waiting interval. For passenger who travels between 2300 and 0500 of the next day, night charge will apply in which the taximeter will automatically add an extra 20% to the day rate. If your destination is more than 15 kilometers (9.32 miles) from the starting point, an extra fee to compensate for the return trip of the driver will be charged directly at the taximeter as well. Please be reminded that passengers are responsible for any toll fees.
Besides that, smoking is prohibited for all public transportation in Beijing. Therefore, not only taxi drivers are not allowed to smoke in the vehicle; as a passenger, you are also not allowed to do so. Visitors to Beijing must beware of taxi without license. It is highly recommended that you should not travel along with such a taxi as no taximeter is used and all the charges are depended on the calculation of driver. This type of taxis is normally illegal and your safety of travel along with this taxi is not guaranteed.

Q: How much a taxi costs from Beijing Capital Airport to China World Exhibition Center?
A: A taxi ride might take you about 30 to 40 minutes at approximately 90 RMB per trip including airport express way toll fee. Anyway, traffic congestion is very common along the route heading towards China World Exhibition Center. Therefore, it is more advisable for you to take Airport Express from Beijing Airport, get off at Sanyuanqiao Station and transfer Beijing Subway Line 10 to Guomao Station. The Beijing Airport Express is 25 RMB per trip while the subway will cost you 2 RMB. With a total of only 27 RMB per trip, your arrival at China World Exhibition Center is guaranteed within 45 minutes.
Q: How much a taxi costs from Beijing Capital Airport to Wangfujing Avenue?
A: The whole journey might cost you about 120 RMB with Beijing Airport Expressway toll fee. Anyway, the taxi rate might largely effected by the ground traffic condition of Beijing city. As Wangfujing is located right in the city center of Beijing city, the heavy traffic load might cause a longer travel interval anyway.
Q: I want to take taxi from Beijing Capital International Airport to Beijing Railway Station. How much it will cost and is there any alternative method for me other than airport taxi?
A: It might take about an hour by taxi. You may also take Beijing Airport Shuttle Bus Line 3 which cost you only 16 RMB and can bring you directly to Beijing Railway Station. Anyway, if you are in nick of time and must reach the railway station on specific duration of time, then I advised you to take Beijing Airport Express to Dongzhimen Station and transfer Beijing Subway Line 2 to Beijing Railway Station. The whole trip will cost you 27 RMB only and you will be arrived at the Railway station within an hour with no doubt.
Q: I have 5 adult and 1 infant. Can we travel within one taxi? Besides that, none of us are Chinese literate, how can I explain to the driver regarding my destination?
A: The maximum adult traveling in a taxi is four. In this case, you need two taxis. Some of the taxi driver might be English literate but for your own convenience, you are advised to print a copy of Chinese address of your destination and show the printed document directly to the taxi driver. Then, they will send you directly to your desired destination.
Tips for Taking Taxi in Beijing
- Taxi sharks are quite active at the international arrival gates of Beijing Capital International Airport. Please do not travel with them as there are official taxi areas within the airport where you can take a legal taxi conveniently. Always remember that official taxi can be easily recognized via the yellow strips across the taxi as well as the taxi sign on the vehicle’s roof. Besides that, an identification card of the taxi driver with his name, photo and taxi companies displayed can be found on the dashboard of the front passenger seat. Moreover, all official taxi will charge according to the rate shown on taximeter and official invoice will be provided after payment. If the taximeter is not functioning, you may refuse to pay; and if the driver threatens to call the police, encourage him to do so.
- If you are not Chinese literate, do prepare a printed copy with the Chinese name as well as the Chinese address of your destination in order to show it directly to the taxi driver.
- All relevant bridge and expressway toll fee will be paid by passengers. The taxi rate after 11 pm or traveling journey for more than 15 kilometers, extra charges will be applied.
- There are specific taxi stops around the city but you may stop any taxi by the road side anyway. Anyway, do remember that no taxi is allowed to stop along the Changan Avenue.
- There are barrier-free taxis available for the convenience of people with disabilities in Beijing. For this type of taxi, no front seat is available but it can easily accommodate wheelchairs. You may call 961001 for the barrier-free taxi booking.

2. The pricing model: taxis that cost 2.0 yuan/kilometer charge a flat fee of
ten yuan within three kilometers. After traveling more than 15 kilometers, an
additional 50% will be charged per kilometer.
